Orpheus and Euridice & Green Sneakers
Opera Piccola, San Antonio

Both pieces were written by renowned composer Ricky Ian Gordon, who is slated to attend, Richter said. Neither has been staged in San Antonio before. "Orpheus" is based on the Greek myth about a man so unmoored by the loss of his wife that he travels to the underworld to retrieve her; "Green Sneakers" is about a man coping with the impending loss of his dying lover to AIDS. Gordon based the latter on his own experience – his partner died in 1996 from the disease.

Stephanie Blythe makes her Opera Theatre debut starring as Gertrude Stein, in a role written for her by composer Ricky Ian Gordon and librettist Royce Vavrek. Indulge for an evening at #27 Rue de Fleurus in Stein's Paris salon, home to the luminaries of the Lost Generation. "With each performance the American mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe gives," wrote The New York Times, "it becomes increasingly apparent that a once-in-a-generation opera singer has arrived." Conducted by Michael Christie. Directed by James Robinson.
